I think he certainly could have some hound in him. I also think his face and ears look a little like a Great Dane, although he's not that large. I definitely can see the German Sheoherd. There are some commercially available DNA tests that can be fun and might give some other ideas although their accuracy is debatable. I think Wisdom panel is best http://www.wisdompanel.com

I can totally understand your problem, as I have a hound dog too! I, personally, have used a bark collar and found it very effective. There are collars that give a little shock/buzz or you can get one that does a spray to deter the dogs from barking. In my experience the dog only needs to be buzzed once or twice until they learn not to bark when the collar is on. You may also consider talking with your vet about an anti anxiety medication for your dog. This may help calm him so he doesn't become so anxious and bark when you leave him alone.

Yes, he can still be trained. I recommend finding a good trainer and getting a few private sessions first, then joining a group obedience class. Learning with other dogs and people around is very helpful when it's in a controlled situation. Dogs gain confidence and respect when they learn obedience and can behave with distractions. They want to please but need guidance and praise to learn. Dogs respond well to a routine, praise, and treats for good behavior. In addition giving plenty of exercise so Hootch is tired every day is important since a tired dog is less reactive. Thanks for using Boop by Petco to help you care for Hootch.

Sure! As a guess, I suspect Boxer with some sort of taller hound breed. The blue eyes can be found in borh these breeds. She is likely a mix of several breeds and not a 50/50 cross. She’s a pretty girl!

Both Golden Retrievers and poodles were originally bred to be hunting dogs and like to chase and hunt. In my opinion, Golden Retrievers tend to be more easily excited. Fortunately both breeds are usually 'easy' to train, so if these behaviors are undesirable you might be able to curb them with some basic obedience training.
