Diagnosed bronchitis, HCM (LA sev. dilated), and CHF via X-ray and echo. 2nd set X-rays 3 days later showed improvement in lungs. Discharged on clopidogrel, clavamox, lasix, fluticasone. Resp.rate ~ 25. Drinking, eating small amounts, urinating. F/U
It appears that nebivolol is being researched for many different possible uses in many lab animal species, but I could not find any information on its use in cats. From the information I could find, most vets have mixed feelings on using atenolol in cats with HCM. There does seem to be a consensus among specialists that it could help in cats with HCM that have Systolic Anterior Motion (SAM) of the mitral valve (seen on echo), but there are no studies showing a positive benefit.

The biggest issue with herbal medications (which is what this supplement is) is a lack of controlled studies to prove that they work. Additionally, just like a man made medication, an herbal medication can also have side effects. Having said all of that, the specific product you refer to does contain Hawthorn which does have effects similar to sotolol. I don't know that its "better," or "safer" than sotolol because we just don't have the data to show that, whereas sotolol has been studied extensively regarding dosage, safety, efficacy, etc. In short, its reasonable to try this herbal medication but I would strongly advise that you do it under the care of a veterinarian who has been trained in herbal medicine. The eye probably needs topical medications so you will have to catch him to even try. I would recommend offering him canned cat food so he can eat without much discomfort. If he eats the canned food, maybe you can use it to lure him into the trap. Good luck!

Thank you for using Boop by Petco! I'm sorry that Jolly is not feeling well. There is no difference in the active ingredient, an antibiotic, between Velosef syrup vs capsules/tablets. Slight differences in the way the compound is dissolved may be present, but the activity is the same. Most veterinarians prescribe medications based on the animal's weight, so the total dose (total milligrams) needs to be the same no matter the form of the medication. I recommend asking your vet what the total amount of medication is per dose, and ensuring that the same amount is present in either the capsules, tablets, or syrup.
