Hi and thanks for using Boop by Petco! Sorry to hear that Leo is having a tick problem. Tick protection is important because depending on where you live, Ticks can transmit many devastating tick borne diseases. There are many products out there including topicals and a few collars. Some of these products will require a veterinary prescription and some are over the counter (OTC). Topical products include Frontline Plus, Advantix, Vectra 3D, Effitix, Activyl, Paradefense, etc. There are some oral medicines out also called Bravecto and Nexgard. The two collars out there that work are Preventic and Seresto. I would advise calling your vet to at least discuss what they recommend in your area and go from there. From a cost standpoint, the Seresto collar (fleas/ticks, 8 months of coverage, waterproof) is probably the most affordable. You can look online for purchasing options. Good luck and I hope this helps.

Tick prevention can be achieved in many different ways. There are TONS of products available on the market, some of which are prescription only and others that are over-the-counter. You might ask ten different vets and get ten different answers as to which product is best, and this is sometimes due to the fact that certain products work better in certain geographic regions. For instance, where I practice in western Pennsylvania, we find that the Seresto Collar provides the best protection, particularly against deer ticks. However, this is not what was routinely recommended further down south. The recommendations will likely be different in the UK as well, so asking some local vets their opinion would be a valuable tool for you. Just in general, there are three different formulations for protection: topical, collar, and oral medication. Any of them are capable of getting the job done, just some are better than others in particular instances. In terms of humans, ticks can definit

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! There are many great medications on the market to prevent fleas and ticks. I like the oral medications that the dog just eats. Nexgard and Simparica are monthly and Bravecto in one chewable pill ever THREE months! There is also a great collar on the market that lasts for EIGHT months called Seresto. You Vet is likely to have at least one of these products. I hope this helps! Good luck!

I would recommend the new product Simparica for flea and tick control (prevents 5 different tick species, including brown dog tick) and Heartgard for heartworm prevention. Then revolution for the cat for heartworm and flea prevention since there is no tick preventative available for cats.

I am sorry to hear about Shadow's tick problem! I would consider a Seresto collar for your dog. They last up to 8 months and are effective against fleas and ticks. The tick doesn't have to bite your dog to be killed. https://www.petbasics.com/dog-products/seresto-for-dogs/?pref=dog.
