I'm sorry to hear that Mr. Cat is so sick! You can certainly give vitamin B12 injections at home if your vet agrees that this may be helpful for your kitty - this is a very common part of treatment for a variety of different problems, and is quite easy to do. Your vet will need to order it for you, since it isn't normally available over the counter. I'm not sure if you had any other questions about your cat's illness, but if so, feel free to post again and we will do our best to answer.

Hi again. Your main source of calories should come from good forage but if that is unavailable, you will need to add more fat to the diet. You can do this with vegetable oils, especially doybrsn oil rather than corn oil. Start with 2 ounces of oil twice daily & gradually build up to 8 ounces twice daily. Another source of fat is stabilized rice bran, which is about 20% fat & is palatable to horses. This is also less messy than an oil. You would feed the same increasing amount as the oil. Watch the manure for any signs of diarrhea or loose stool & back off the fats as necessary. Hope this helps & thanks againfor using Boop by Petco.

B12 isn't likely to make your dog sick, but you can call your vet to make sure. If you have doubts, I suggest calling a pet poison helpline, such as this one: http://www.petpoisonhelpline.com/contact/ If it has been less than 2 hours since your pet ate it, you can induce vomiting by giving an oral dose of hydrogen peroxide, about 1 cc per pound. One tablespoon is about 5 cc. A turkey baster will work if you don't have a syringe. Longer than two hours and it will have already moved into the intestines.

Vitamin A is vital to a cow's health at all life stages. A cow that doesn't have enough may not be able to get pregnant, or may have slowed or no growth. In most cases, pasture-fed cattle should get enough Vitamin A from grazing, however it may need to be supplemented during the winter with a vitamin/mineral feed block in addition to grain/silage feeding. Dairy cows or cows that aren't pastured should also have it supplemented to prevent deficiency. For supplementing, the current NRC (2001) requirement for supplemental vitamin A is 50 IU/lb of body weight (BW) or about 70,000 to 77,000 IU/day for an adult cow, however if you have good pasture or are using a vitamin block you shouldn't need to measure out the exact amount unless you are sure your cow is clinically deficiency (which should be confirmed by a vet.)

B12 will support nervous system, GI system and immune system function. It may also stimulate a cat's appetite to some degree. B12 may be of benefit to cats with intestinal lymphoma. Since it is a water soluble vitamin, it is considered very safe to use. Discuss use and a dose with your veterinarian or a veterinary oncologist familiar with your cat's medical history and health status.
